Colic Risks

Why Your Horse is at risk?

Horses have complex and delicate digestive tracts. As they graze, many horses ingest surprising amounts of sand, silt and debris. This can have debilitating and potentially life-threatening effects.

Colic is the leading cause of horse deaths. Far too many cases are due to sand settling in the gastrointestinal (GI) tract. Other stresses can also disrupt the normal function of the horse’s digestive system, including:

     • Training
     • Competition
     • Changes in diet
     • Dehydration
     • Disruptions in daily routines
     • Separation anxiety from other horses
     • Changes in weather
