FAQs

FAQs

1. What is STEADFAST Broodmare?

STEADFAST Broodmare is a nutritional supplement formulated for mares to help support all stages of gestation and breeding. This unique supplement complements traditional rations and provides critical bioavailable minerals and vitamins required for optimal broodmare health and normal fetal development.

2. When should I begin feeding STEADFAST Broodmare?

STEADFAST Broodmare is designed to be offered as a daily, year round supplement to pregnant and breeding mares. Open mares will benefit through supplementation prior to breeding as many reproductive tissues are influenced by the nutrients provided by STEADFAST Broodmare.

Broodmare provide?

STEADFAST Broodmare provides critical nutrients to the mare and supports the development of the fetus, including healthy bone, cartilage, tendon and ligament development.

4. I am providing my mare with a good quality grain concentrate and forage; why is supplementation of STEADFAST Broodmare beneficial?

The foundation of any good equine nutrition program should begin with high quality forages. Grain rations are often provided for supplemental calories and additional nutrients. The unknown factors are forage consistency and bioavailability of a ration's vitamins and minerals to ensure optimal health and reproduction.

Forage types, sources and quality often change with availability, weather and market conditions. This fact can create nutrient gaps that need to be addressed through supplementation. In addition, environmental stress, disease, breeding, and pregnancy can increase the needs of critical nutrients. While fortified grain rations provide a baseline of supplemental nutrients, it is a challenge to know if consistent, optimal levels are available for every broodmare and developing fetus.

When you consider the investment in stallion fees and broodmare care, it is a prudent approach to ensure critical nutrients are always provided through daily supplementation with STEADFAST Broodmare.

5. How are the trace minerals in STEADFAST Broodmare different from those commonly found in feeds and other supplements?

The trace minerals zinc, copper and manganese are essential for mare reproductive health and developing foals. These minerals are required for hundreds of enzyme systems that impact the normal physiology of every cell and tissue in the body. Of particular interest in the mare, is how these trace mineral dependent enzyme systems affect reproductive efficiency and fetal development and health.

Traditionally, inorganic minerals are utilized in grain concentrates. These minerals may be poorly absorbed and prone to multiple dietary antagonisms. These antagonisms may result in the absorption of just enough mineral to prevent classical deficiency symptoms that can have profoundly negative effects on structural tissue integrity and many cellular functions. In other words, outwardly a broodmare may appear healthy, but at the cellular level there may be stress and suboptimal performance. Another concern is how marginal trace mineral nutrition will impact her developing fetus.

Unlike traditional rations and supplements, STEADFAST Broodmare offers a proprietary blend of chelated zinc, copper and manganese that provide significant absorption advantages. The trace minerals in STEADFAST Broodmare are bound to two methionine analogues and this unique structure is significantly more acid resistant. Therefore, the chelated minerals in STEADFAST Broodmare are less prone to acid degradation in the stomach. This stability prevents common dietary antagonisms that occur with traditional mineral sources. The trace minerals in STEADFAST Broodmare will help ensure the mare and her developing fetus have the optimal physiologic enzyme function required for normal tissue development.

6. What is the benefit of the methionine portion of the trace minerals found in STEADFAST Broodmare?

Methionine is an important and essential amino acid for horses. This sulfur containing amino acid must be provided in the diet for proper growth and development of numerous cells and tissues. Unlike traditional sources, the minerals in STEADFAST Broodmare also provide an excellent source of methionine that is required by all mares and their developing foals.

7. STEADFAST Broodmare offers supplemental vitamin C and vitamin D. Are these limiting nutrients for my broodmare?

Horses can synthesize vitamin C, but with the stress of pregnancy, lactation, weather, disease or simple ration changes it is unknown if optimal amounts are available on a consistent basis. Since vitamin C is crucial for proper tissue development and the immune system, daily supplementation will help ensure that your mare always has adequate levels available.

There is a lot of interest and research on the benefits of increased vitamin D intake in multiple species. Classically, the focus on vitamin D has been on bone development, but recent research has proven that supplemental vitamin D can have profound benefits on many other cells and tissues. Forages can be deficient in vitamin D precursors, and the stability of vitamin D in stored grain concentrates is unknown. Since vitamin D is so crucial for reproduction and fetal development, no broodmare should be deficient in this nutrient found in STEADFAST Broodmare.

8. Will STEADFAST Broodmare create any vitamin or mineral toxicities?

No; the amounts provided in STEADFAST Broodmare are well below any toxic levels, even when added to existing grain rations. Most of the trace minerals found in grain rations are poorly absorbed. STEADFAST Broodmare provides supplemental levels needed to prevent a deficiency. It is not recommended to offer STEADFAST Broodmare with other supplements unless directed by your veterinarian.

9. Will STEADFAST Broodmare eliminate the risk of Developmental Orthopedic Disease?

No; Developmental Orthopedic Disease (DOD) is a complex disease that involves many factors including genetics, management, exercise, illness and nutrition. It is thought that DOD may begin during gestation. STEADFAST Broodmare is designed to support the normal development of structural tissues, including bone.

10. Where is STEADFAST Broodmare produced?

STEADFAST Broodmare is formulated and manufactured in the USA. Manufacturing is performed at an FDA inspected facility utilizing good manufacturing practices.

11. In what form is STEADFAST Broodmare available?

STEADFAST Broodmare is available in highly palatable pellets.

12. What is the recommended dosage of STEADFAST Broodmare?

Feed mares 25 grams (one scoop) per 1100 lb of body weight daily with normal ration. For broodmares & pregnant mares, feed 1 scoop. For lactating mares, feed 1.5 scoops.

13. In what size pail is STEADFAST Broodmare available?

STEADFAST Broodmare is available in pails of 45 or 90 servings.

14. How should I store STEADFAST Broodmare?

STEADFAST Broodmare should be stored in a cool dry place and resealed between uses.
